The Five Trails of the Val Grande Reserve

Molinella Trail

This nature trail leads you through all the key habitats of the Reserve — from the shaded holm oak forest to open permanent meadows and serene wetland areas.

Along the way, you’ll encounter scenic viewpoints and wooden boardwalks suspended over the water, offering beautiful glimpses of the valley’s lakes.

You can choose between two route options:

Short Route: 2 km — approx. 1 hour on foot

Long Route: 4 km — 1.5–2 hours on foot or 30 minutes by bike

Young Ranger Educational Trail

he Oasis features a themed trail designed especially for children — a fun and educational adventure!
Along the route, young explorers climb over ancient dunes to uncover their hidden secrets, walk past the archaeological site dating back to Roman times, and learn to recognize the animals that inhabit the Oasis.
The trail is 1 km long and can be completed in about 20 minutes on foot.

Archaeological Trail

This trail leads to the archaeological site of the ancient Roman villa known as Mutteron dei Frati.
Although the excavation area cannot currently be visited up close due to ongoing research and conservation work, visitors can still observe the site from the outside.
A highlight of this trail is the presence of the tallest natural dune in the Upper Adriatic — a remarkable geological feature.
This is a very short route and takes approximately 15 minutes on foot.

“Bosco Nuovo” Trail

This cycling route loops around the perimeter of the Oasis, leading you past the historic Casone di Valle, the area of the former fish farms, the newly planted woodland, and even an old bunker.

Along the way, you’ll ride beside the Litoranea Veneta canal on one side, while enjoying sweeping views of the large valley lake on the other.

The trail is 10.5 km long and designed to be completed by bike in about 2 hours.

Birdwatchers’ Trail

One of the defining features of the Oasis is the presence of expansive bodies of water — the valley lakes — which host a remarkable variety of bird species.

For this reason, we’ve created a route dedicated entirely to birdwatching. The trail leads to several observation points specially designed for spotting local wildlife.

Visiting all observation spots takes approximately 2.5 hours on foot, although the trail can also be done by bike to shorten travel time.

The management reserves the right to close the Oasis — or restrict access to certain areas — in the event of adverse weather conditions that may pose a risk to visitors’ safety, such as thunderstorms or strong winds.

For this reason, if the weather looks uncertain, we recommend calling us before your visit to receive up‑to‑date information on conditions and on the accessibility of the Reserve.

What are the best times to visit the Oasis?

I Early morning is definitely the ideal time to explore our oasis. At this time of day, you can enjoy several advantages:

  • Pleasant temperatures: Mornings are generally cool and sunny, making it more comfortable to explore, especially during the summer months.
  • Peace and quiet: The oasis is still relatively empty in the early hours, allowing for a more intimate and serene experience, fully immersed in nature..
  • Wildlife activity: Animals are most active at dawn and dusk, so a morning visit increases your chances of spotting birds, mammals, and other wildlife.
  • Beautiful lights: Morning light is perfect for photographing the oasis and its breathtaking landscapes.

Besides early morning, late afternoon can also be a great time to visit the oasis.
