The Val Grande Nature Oasis

The Val Grande Nature Oasis is a protected area located in the seaside destination of Bibione, in the province of Venice. This oasis is a true paradise for nature lovers and for anyone seeking peace and tranquillity away from the bustle of city life.
Covering more than 300 hectares, it encompasses a rich variety of habitats that host an extraordinary range of plant and animal species. Here, you can spot birds, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals living in an environment where humans and nature have coexisted in harmony for centuries.
The Oasis was opened to the public in 2024 thanks to an initiative by Bibione Spiaggia S.r.l., with the aim of protecting and enhancing one of the last remaining pockets of pristine nature along the Venetian coastline. Its history is closely linked to the development of Bibione — a popular holiday destination that has grown significantly over the years while still preserving large areas of natural landscape.

Val Grande is part of NATURA 2000 Network – S.I.C. IT320833 & Z.P.S. IT32250041.

Launched in 2024 by the management company Bibione Spiaggia S.R.L., the project aims to transform a large area previously used as a traditional fishing valley and hunting reserve into a protected natural oasis open to visitors.
The planning phase was carefully overseen by the Foce del Tagliamento Association (O.D.V.), with great attention paid to safeguarding the surrounding environment and minimizing any ecological impact. The work focused exclusively on enhancing existing features: upgrading current walking trails, restoring birdwatching towers and hides, and improving habitats in line with the official management plan issued by the Veneto Region.
No new buildings or invasive developments are planned. The initiative is designed to preserve and protect the valley’s delicate ecosystem and its valuable green spaces, ensuring that nature remains the true focus of the experience.

During the planning phase, specific areas were designated for visitor activities, along with protected no-access zones. These restricted areas are essential to provide safe refuge for wildlife and to ensure the long-term conservation of the ecosystem.
Within the park, visitors will follow clearly marked routes defined by fences and ropes. Some trails will be reserved for walking, others for cycling or horseback riding, with every effort made to avoid mixed use whenever possible in order to reduce disturbance and enhance safety. On the valley’s largest lake, a dedicated canoe route has been identified; access will be limited to small groups accompanied by the Oasis’ certified nature guides.

A visitor management protocol has also been established. This includes the possibility of limiting access during certain hours to prevent unnecessary stress to wildlife and to protect the natural environment. The protocol also outlines a set of guidelines that all visitors to the Oasis are required to follow to help preserve this delicate habitat.

  • Do not pick flowers, mushrooms, berries, or other plants.
  • Stay on marked trails in areas designated for independent use.
  • No open flames.
  • No smoking (designated smoking areas are provided).
  • Drones are prohibited.
  • Do not leave any kind of litter.
  • No loud noises or shouting.
  • Do not feed the animals.
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash.

For anything not explicitly mentioned, common sense must be used in a place where nature has its space and visitors are guests.

The project was publicly presented to the municipal delegation in Bibione on Monday, May 13, 2024.
